Emporia teen airlifted to Wichita following crash

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — An Emporia teen had to be airlifted to Wichita following a crash in Chase County.

The Chase County Sheriff’s Office says it happened shortly after 3 p.m. Friday on Highway 50 between 225 Road and North Road. According to the sheriff’s office, a 19-year-old Emporia man was driving east on the highway when he fell asleep and crossed the center line, colliding with a semi truck.

The teen was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated by the Chase County Fire Department. He was airlifted to Wesley Medical Center in critical condition.

The driver of the semi was not hurt. Traffic was backed up in both directions on Highway 50 for about an hour, according to the sheriff’s office…
