WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan is addressing an increase in violent crimes involving teenagers. The most recent incident: A shooting early Tuesday morning at a Wichita QuikTrip that left a 23-year-old man in critical condition. A 16-year-old suspect is in custody, marking the fifth time since Aug. 24 that a minor in Wichita has either killed or tried to kill someone, police said.
Wichita police crime stats show 94 arrests so far this year for minors illegally carrying firearms. Comparing this number with last year when it comes to minors illegally possessing guns, the arrest count is already two more than police made in all of 2024.
