Kansas Weather Alert Tonight: Severe Storms, 65 MPH Winds Possible

Wichita, KS – Strong storms are expected to develop across central Kansas this evening and continue through Monday night, bringing the potential for hail and damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service in Wichita.

Forecasters said Sunday morning that scattered thunderstorms will begin forming late this afternoon, with the highest storm chances west of Wichita near Russell (83%), Salina (67%), and Hutchinson (42%). The system is expected to spread east overnight and persist into Monday night, with renewed development across much of central and eastern Kansas.

According to the National Weather Service, some storms could turn severe, producing hail up to a quarter inch in size and winds reaching 65 mph. Rain chances remain elevated Monday, particularly in Salina (63%), Emporia (55%), and Topeka (61%)
