Crown Uptown Theatre looking to increase capacity

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Crown Uptown Theatre is looking to increase capacity.

It is different from a request the Wichita City Council rejected earlier this year. It would have set the capacity at more than 2,000 people. Afterward, the owner threatened to tear down the building. An attempt to place the theatre on the National Register of Historic Places also failed.

On Monday, the Wichita District 1 Advisory Board will discuss the owner’s request to increase the venue capacity beyond the 850 people allowed by the fire code. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Atwater Neighborhood Resource Center, locatedat 2755 E. 19th St. N.
