Man sentenced in death of Wichita woman whose body was dumped in Cottonwood Park

The man convicted of killing a Wichita woman at her apartment before dumping her body in Cottonwood Park has been sentenced to life in prison, plus more than 15 additional years.

Kyle S. Bearden, 32, pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder, kidnapping, burglary and aggravated robbery charges less than two weeks after prosecutors charged him in the July 19 shooting death of 31-year-old Mariana Christian. On Monday, Sedgwick County District Judge Jeffrey Goering ordered him to serve life in prison with no parole eligibility for 25 years for murder, Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lyndsee Stover said.

If Bearden is paroled on that count, he will begin serving the 181-month portion of his overall sentence…
