Rowing community gathers for 34th Frostbite Regatta in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Wichita Rowing Association (WRA) hosted its 34th annual Frostbite Regatta on the Arkansas River on Sunday.

The WRA is a local nonprofit made up of people who love rowing. The organization promotes the sport in the Wichita area and gives those who might not excel at traditional athletics a way to enjoy a team experience.

“(Rowing) has a purity of racing, which is all sorts of things for racing, but actually getting in the boat to where you’re flying across the water usually going backwards — not even seeing where you’re going — but trusting everybody to do this and it’s very very much a team orient sport,” Jeremy Taylor, the regatta chair for the WRA, said. “I like to think of them as one of the ultimate team sports because you’re 100% counting on everybody else, in that boat to move together to flow together, in order to make the boat move as fast as you can make it move.”…
