Replacement of 1st Street bridge in downtown Wichita could begin in December

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The replacement of the 1st Street bridge over the Arkansas River in downtown Wichita could begin in December, according to Steve Degenhardt, assistant city engineer for the City of Wichita.

On Monday evening, an information meeting was held at the Advanced Learning Library regarding the upcoming work. Degenhardt said the bridge is being replaced due to its deterioration.

“The bridge is not going to fall down tomorrow, but it’s certainly needed. Either a major rehabilitation or rebuilt new and given the cost exercises that were ran with its structural condition, building new became the most logical option,” he said…
