WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was severely injured when an inmate threw boiling water on him has been honored.
The sheriff’s office said at Thursday evening’s annual Kansas Sheriffs’ Association Banquet, Deputy Paul Scarpitta was named Detention Deputy of the Year.
Scarpitta, who suffered second- and third-degree burns in the attack, brought the situation under control before he was taken to the hospital for treatment, according to the sheriff’s office.
