Ending the trash bag cycle: Kansas nonprofit gives backpacks to foster kids without luggage

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Every day, a child enters the foster care system in Kansas, and the removal process is often traumatic.

“Oftentimes, they’re handed a trash bag to place all their belongings in,” said Jason Geesaman, founder of Wichita-based nonprofit Hope Fostered. “They don’t have a suitcase, don’t have a backpack — anything like that.”

He said in Kansas, a child will move nine times on average within the foster system…
