New programs in Sedgwick County aim to prevent property fraud

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Sedgwick County is trying to protect people from fraud.

The Register of Deeds office has two new programs. One alerts a notary when a document with their seal is filed. Another notifies a property owner if paperwork, such as a mortgage or deed, is filed under their name. That alert would be sent the same day the document is recorded.

“It’s so important for you to keep track of your property because that’s your biggest investment, and we would hate to see any homeowners lose their homes without being notified first,” Kenly Zehring, the chief deputy of the Sedgwick County Register of Deeds, said…
