Evergy alerts Kansans to beware of sophisticated scam tactics

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Evergy is warning customers about scammers using advanced technology to target people across Kansas.

Evergy says scammers are becoming savvier, using fake websites, spoofed phone numbers, and high-pressure tactics to trick customers into paying immediately. These fake pages often mimic the company’s real design, and scammers will even pay to push their fraudulent sites to the top of search results.

The company says the most important way to protect yourself is to use its website, app or call customer service.

“So, you want to make sure you are doing business and paying your bill directly with Evergy.com. Scammers will also threat disconnection if you do not make immediate payment,” Kaley Bohlen, the communication manager at Evergy, said. “Evergy will not disconnect service for non-payment without multiple notifications prior to that disconnection.”…
