Another sloth dies at Tanganyika; two others have kidney failure

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Tanganyika Wildlife Park is mourning the loss of a second sloth, and two more are in declining health.

The park announced Monday that Molasses, a female sloth, has died. Her death follows that of Oscar the sloth, who experienced anemia and rapid organ failure, in mid-November.

Tanganyika said it is closely monitoring its two remaining sloths, Chewie and Sidney.

They are undergoing intensive care because their kidneys are failing. Tanganyika said the pair are under around-the-clock care, receiving fluids, antibiotics and gut bacteria transplants from donor sloths.

Tanganyika said whenever an animal in its care dies, especially one that isn’t old, its veterinary and animal care teams begin investigating.
