Man cleared in Wichita killing after arguing self-defense

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Charges have been dropped against a man accused in a 2024 homicide who was arrested in another country.

The final charge against Eric Gonzalez-Gutierrez was dismissed this week, according to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.

He was charged with fatally shooting Aron Lara, 28, at a barbecue near Jackson Avenue and 30th Street North on Father’s Day 2024. Shortly after his first appearance, police said he removed his ankle monitor and fled Wichita.
