WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Sedgwick County and the City of Wichita are both considering adding to their sales tax rates. The county’s aim is to reduce the tax burden on property owners, but one proposal could come at the expense of the other.
Sedgwick County Commissioner Jim Howell is proposing a quarter-cent county sales tax, but says if the city’s tax measure passes in March, it would be too much for Wichita taxpayers.
Howell says his proposal depends entirely on whether or not the city’s tax ballot passes. If the city approves its 1% sales tax, he will stop pushing the quarter-cent sales tax…
