‘This is a full-circle moment’: Local teacher to march in 2026 Rose Parade

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — One Derby teacher was selected to march in the 2026 Rose Parade with the Band Directors Marching Band.

Olivia Bazanos will join more than 300 band directors from across the nation for the Rose Parade in Pasadena on Jan. 1.

The band will walk along the 5 ½ mile parade route, accompanied by large, colorful floats.

“This is a full-circle moment – as a senior in high school, I marched in the 2017 RoseParade with the Bands of America Honor Band. Now, nine years later, I am privileged to march once again—this time while sharing the experience with my own students from Derby High School, Rimi Pickels (color guard) and Sophie Segelke (clarinet), who will be marching with the Bands of America Honor Band,” Bazanos said in a news release. “I am honored to represent Derby Public Schools and the state of Kansas with this group as I did two years ago, marching with SABD during the 2023 Macy’s Day parade.”…
