Storm Track 3 Forecast: Winds of change this weekend bring winter back!

Warm temperatures are sticking around tomorrow. If Wichita hits a third day in a row at 70 degrees or higher, it will be the first time in recorded weather history for December. Records officially date back to 1888 for Wichita.

A few records were either tied or broken today, including Wichita, Salina, Russell and Medicine Lodge.

Overnight, temperatures will be mild for this time of year from the upper 30s to the 40s.

Fog should not be of a concern like it was for many nights this week.

Clouds will increase from west to east on Saturday.  A sprinkle or two is possible over central Kansas Saturday afternoon into the evening.

Big changes will swing the pendulum back to winter by the end of the weekend.  The cold front drops south starting Saturday night.

Ahead of this boundary, showers and a few rumbles of thunder are possible from central into eastern Kansas.

The wind will howl, with gusts from 35-45 MPH on Sunday.

Temperatures on Sunday will be warmest at midnight.

And then fall to the 20s and 30s in the afternoon.

Wind chills will feel as cold as the teens and single digits by Monday morning.

Any sprinkles or rain showers that form will transition to snow showers and flurries on Sunday. There could even be some freezing drizzle, especially East of the Turnpike. Timing the colder air with the amount of moisture available will be key.

Extreme Northwest Kansas may see a dusting to an inch of snow.  Any damp roadways will need to be watched for a quick freeze.  This is not going to be a whopper of a system to produce much moisture for us but may be enough for a sneaky slick spot.

The air temperature for Monday morning travelers will be in the teens and twenties, certainly a shock after our stretch of record-breaking warmth.

Monday will be quite cold by afternoon with highs in the 30s.  The flow becomes warmer on Tuesday with temperatures moderating near average.  The end of next week looks slightly cooler and remaining dry.  If trends continue, the start of the following week after the New Year could be much more active in terms of rain and or snow.  Something to watch as we get closer.
