WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – As tinsel comes down and decorations are boxed away, a different aftermath is arriving in mailboxes across the country: high credit card bills and drained savings. A local financial expert described a pattern that leaves many households grappling with debt in the new year.
“I think the first thing that we need to understand and acknowledge is that you’re not alone in this,” said Dr. Larry Straub, associate professor of management at Newman University. Straub told 12 News that overspending around the holidays is common.
“Probably two-thirds of people overspend on Christmas,” he said. “And mind you, this is two-thirds of the people that actually make a budget.”…
