WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita City Council members are seeking more information on a report alleging the city waived millions of dollars in late fees for the contractor behind the city’s still under-construction new water plant.
The Wichita Eagle published a report saying the city of Wichita quietly waived up to $5 million in late fees for delays in the completion of its new water plant. Council members said they want more information from public works.
Contract changes made in 2024
A week after the city announced the single largest public works project in Wichita’s history would be delayed again — this time a year due to a design flaw — city council members are looking for answers about a September 2024 change order that made substantial revisions to the city’s contract with Wichita Water Partners.
