KDOT using beet juice mixture for road treatment ahead of winter storm

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – The Kansas Department of Transportation is already sending out trucks to salt and prepare problem areas around Sedgwick County, like bridges and highways that can become slicker faster.

But they won’t only be relying on salt. Instead, KDOT will be using beet juice. It’s mixed with brine in large cylinders and works at lower temperatures to melt snow more effectively.
