McConnell AFB remembers commander who ‘set the foundation for everything we do’

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — McConnell Air Force Base is remembering the former Operations Group commander for the 22nd Air Refueling Wing.

An article published Thursday on the base’s website said Col. Thad R. Middleton, 51, died Jan. 9.

Command for McConnell’s 22nd Air Refueling Wing changes

Middleton served a number of years in command at McConnell.

Before that, he oversaw tanker modernization at the base, with the introduction of the KC-46 air refueling plane. Middleton served as chief of the KC-46 Program Integration Office at McConnell, and his work helped launch the aircraft across the Air Force.
