Storm Team 12 looks back on Feb. 1912 snowstorms that killed at least 100 people, thousands of livestock

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – February 1912 included three major snowstorms/blizzards in Kansas that killed at least 100 people and thousands of livestock.

Looking back on the data from 114 years ago, Meteorologist Jake Dunne reported that there were many record lows and most of Kansas didn’t see all of the snow melt until mid-March.

“In Wichita, the winter of 1911-1912 remains the snowiest on record with 39.7 inches,” Dunne said in a Facebook post about the historic weather event.

That snowfall total equates to more than three feet of snow. You can see the full story looking back on the treacherous winter from more than a century ago on our Weather Focus show at 5:30 p.m. on the KSCW…
