‘Rhapsody in Red, White and Blue’ comes to Wichita as part of 50-state blitz

Composer Peter Boyer found out that pianist Jeffrey Biegel was shopping “Rhapsody in Red, White and Blue” to symphonies across the country before he had written it.

“He was extensively promoting the piece before he had heard a note of it,” the composer recalled with a laugh from his Altadena, Calif., studio.

Biegel, Boyer said, had envisioned a piece that he would play alongside George Gershwin’s iconic “Rhapsody in Blue” for the centennial of the work in 2024, contacting him in early 2020, just before the pandemic…
