Wichita, Kansas – Colder air is moving back into central and south-central Kansas today as a cold front sweeps through the region, bringing gusty winds and a return to below-average temperatures through Monday. Travel along I-135, I-35, U.S. 54/400 and K-96 may be affected late Friday as a weak disturbance introduces light snow and flurries across central and northern counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, temperatures today will reach the upper 30s to upper 50s, depending on location, before falling sharply tonight with lows in the upper teens to low 20s. Breezy northwest winds will persist into Friday afternoon, raising fire danger across southern Kansas while setting the stage for a quick cool-down north of Hutchinson and McPherson.

Snow chances increase late Friday afternoon through around midnight, with probabilities ranging between 10% and 55%. Most areas will see less than one-half inch, but brief reductions in visibility and thin coatings on bridges are possible along the I-135 and U.S. 81 corridors, especially from Salina to Newton.

Weekend temperatures remain below average, with highs hovering in the mid-40s to near 50° Saturday and Sunday. A stronger warmup arrives Tuesday as southerly winds boost temperatures back into the low to mid-60s
