Wildfire concerns continue Thursday. The greatest risk will be focused to the south.
Fire Weather Warnings today will be in effect for counties surrounding the Kansas/Oklahoma line. Winds will be gusty again and it will be dry across the southern half of the area.
A system tracking through the Plains will be the culprit of today’s gusty winds, switching them out of the northwest. This will also cause temperatures to drop even more today.
As many of us return to a winter feel, there will also be some wintry weather. There has been some snow falling early this morning to the northwest.
Light snow will continue to skim our northernmost counties through the rest of the morning and through the afternoon. Most of this will wrap up later this evening.
Everyone will go back into the freezer tonight. Overnight low temperatures will be in the teens and 20s.
Some amount of layers will need to stay on Friday after a freezing start. High temperatures will feel more like the season we are in.
Winds tomorrow will not be as strong but they will still be breezy.
The wind will keep fire concerns in the forecast Friday. However, fire concerns will continue to shrink and only be confined to extreme southwest portions of the area.
There will also be some moisture to aid in lower fire concerns. Snow mixed with some rain Friday will start to the west early in the day.
Later in the day some spotty wintry and wet weather will spread into Central and Eastern Kansas. Freezing temperatures during the night will cause any moisture to mainly be in the form of snow but most of this will wrap up by Saturday morning.
There is a small chance for some leftover snow showers early Saturday but most of us will be dry. The weekend will be chilly before temperatures start to warm back up.
