Wichita museum reaches $50,000 goal to restore train

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Wichita Great Plains Museum of Transportation announced on Monday that it reached its $50,000 fundraising goal for the restoration of Santa Fe locomotive 93.

Santa Fe 93 was built in 1967 but was given to the railroad museum in 1999.

A GoFundMe was set up in November after it was grit-blasted down to the metal, revealing significant rust and other hidden damage.

“While the GoFundMe effort raised several thousand dollars, the majority of the $50,000 we needed was donated, or is committed, directly to our museum by generous supporters who learned of our need via publicity generated from our announcement,” museum President Heather Gatton said in a press release. “Every donation to our Santa Fe 93 cosmetic restoration project is important, and we appreciate the incredible support we received from so many people who want to see 93 in gleaming new red and silver paint.”…
