Storm Track 3 Forecast: Beautiful end to February, March arrives with moisture

A gorgeous day is in progress!  Sunshine dominates and temperatures are quite comfortable and above average today.  The sky stays clear overnight with lows in the 30s and lower 40s.

The warmth will rev on Friday with multiple towns topping out in the seventies.  There will be a bit more of a breeze.  For a few hours Friday afternoon, the fire danger will be elevated.

A cold front slides south starting on Saturday.  There could be a few showers to the east early Saturday morning, but these will likely miss our area.

Temps in northern Kansas will be cooler than the southern half of the state.  From the 60s to the 70s, it will be the best day of the weekend.

Colder air channels farther south into Sunday morning.  There is a disturbance that looks to bring a mix of rain, sleet, freezing rain and potentially snow to Kansas starting Sunday morning.

The temperature Sunday morning when this kicks off is important and how far to the east or west this system is placed all play factors into how much of Kansas gets in on this system, and what type of wintry weather will be served up.

Northern Kansas will be cold enough for snow and the wintry mix.  Farther south towards Wichita, temps will be near to just above freezing Sunday morning for a cold rain.  Temperatures will be slow to warm on Sunday that could keep the wintry mix lingering longer into the afternoon before exiting by evening. Looks like central and eastern Kansas stand the best chance of being impacted with less to the west.

Temperatures on Monday will be cool in the 40s.  More warmth will be added into Tuesday as the next system gears up.  This looks to be mostly rain although Northwest Kansas may get in on some snow mixing in once temps cool early Tuesday morning. Rain then becomes more widespread Tuesday night into Wednesday.

We are about to embark on a much more active pattern that could give some of us a healthy amount of moisture through the first week and a half of March.  Another couple of systems will gear up late next week and over the following weekend.

Temps will climb and so will the instability.  We could be looking at springtime storms in portions of the Plains late next week.  We will also need to monitor cooler temps in the northwest for any potential changeover to snow.  It is about to get busy with many more chances for moisture next month!
