The risk for wildfires is not zero through early evening. We have the warmth, a little wind and dry conditions today.
Overnight, temperatures will be milder to the southeast into the 40s with the 30s north and west.
A cold front will dip south on Saturday. There may be enough lift ahead of it for a few spotty showers from Southcentral into eastern Kansas from the afternoon to the evening. Highs will be warm in the 60s and 70s.
The front cools us by Sunday as a storm system enters the region. Depending on how cold temperatures are on Sunday will determine what type of wintry weather portions of Kansas will receive.
Generally, north of 36 Highway will be more snow. Near I-70 will be a wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain. And to the south, including Wichita, will be all rain.
Highs will be in the 30s to the northeast and as warm as the 50s in the extreme southwest corner. Travel could be complicated and slick on I-70 from Russell County east towards the Kansas City Metro.
Warmer temperatures push back into the state next week.
A few showers cannot be ruled out on Monday with an uptick in rain Tuesday into Wednesday. Some snow may mix in to the northwest Tuesday night. Some of this rain may be heavy.
Another two systems are lined up from late next week into the start of the following week. We may have enough moisture and instability for a few storms. The backside of these systems may provide enough of a chill for snow to be in the mix to the northwest.
Moisture is certainly looking much more favorable for the first couple of weeks of March!
