WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A bridge reconstruction project on U.S. Highway 160 in south-central Kansas will create a 60-mile detour.
Starting March 16, crews will begin reconstruction of the bridge over the Walnut River near the Cowley County Fairgrounds on the west side of Winfield. The work will require the bridge to be closed to traffic for about six weeks.
Highway traffic will be diverted north from Wellington onto U.S. Highway 81, then to Kansas Highway 55 and Kansas Highway 15, and finally south to Winfield on U.S. Highway 77. The Kansas Department of Transportation said it only uses highways for detours for safety and maintenance considerations. Drivers are free to use a different detour than the official one…
