New Day names interim CEO following death of Herman

New Day Healthcare, the privately held home health, personal care and hospice firm, has tapped Chief Operating Officer Kathy Poland to be interim chief executive officer. Founder and CEO G. Scott Herman died last month.

“Scott built New Day with a clear purpose — to provide exceptional care and to support the people who deliver it,” Poland said in a statement. “Our leadership team has worked together for many years, and we are committed to supporting one another and our teams as we carry forward Scott’s vision. Our focus remains on the patients and families we serve and on the dedicated employees who care for them every day.”

The company also formalized an executive committee “to provide further continuity and leadership strength.” Members are: Poland; Jeff Bonham, chief financial officer; Phil Melugin, CEO of New Day’s Midwest region and founder of Phoenix Home Care & Hospice, a New Day company; and Lester Simmons, chief administrative officer and chief people officer…
