Wichita school district weighing potential November bond proposal after 2025 vote failed

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Wichita Public Schools is considering a potential bond proposal for the November ballot to help fund a list of possible school improvement projects, about a year after voters narrowly rejected a $450 million bond.

District leaders plan to share more information at Monday’s Board of Education meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. The district says the average age of its school buildings is more than 60 years old, and that aging infrastructure and changing city dynamics are creating needs that cannot be addressed through existing capital funds.

“With older buildings, there will always be needs,” said Wichita school district communications supervisor Susan Arensman. “We’ve always been getting the community involved, but we always want more. But the main thing to know is that there are some things that there are crucial needs.”…
