WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Upcoming railroad work will lead to some street closures for unrelated projects in Hutchinson and Newton.
Hutchinson
The City of Hutchinson said that Union Pacific will begin work on the Plum Street railroad crossing, located just north of Avenue D. The road will be closed with traffic detoured Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Traffic will be detoured onto Avenue F to Chestnut Street to Avenue C. Next week, April 14 and 15, additional railroad crossing closures are planned for:
- Cleveland Street
- Chestnut Street
- Plum Street
- Maple Street
Details on detours will be released when plans are finalized. Work is expected to take between 24 and 36 hours to complete at each crossing.
Barricades and flagmen will be directing traffic during work hours. The city says that drivers may want to plan ahead and expect delays.

Also, starting Tuesday in Newton, K&O Railroad will be closing the crossing at East First and Kansas. Work is expected to only take about four hours between 9:30 and 1:30 p.m.
