Air quality reduced in in Wichita amid prescribed burning in Flint Hills

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – An essential springtime practice in the Flint Hills is impacting the air quality in Wichita. As of 7 a.m., environmental data showed that the air quality in the city dropped to within the “unhealthy range” with high levels of PM 2.5 ((fine particulate matter) in the air.

PM2.5 particles are small and can travel deep into the lungs, potentially causing health issues — especially for children, older adults and those with respiratory or heart conditions.
