Haukap Shatters Hammer Throw Record

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – Pittsburg State University senior Jack Haukap shattered school and MIAA records in the hammer throw Thursday (Apr. 9) at the University of Central Missouri Kip & Kirk Mule Relays.

Haukap (Garden Plain, Kan.) unleashed a throw of 230 feet, 6 inches to finish as the top collegian in the competition. His mark bettered the previous school record of 221-7 set by Levi Wyrick in 2021 as well as the previous MIAA record of 222-9 set by MSSU’s Peyton Barton in 2024. His effort launched him to the top of the NCAA Division II ranks this season and it ranks as the ninth-best throw in D2 history.

In other Pitt State action Thursday, sophomore middle distance runner Eli Gilmore posted the third-fastest time in school history in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 1 minute, 49.70 seconds.
