Four Kansas lakes under watches, warnings for toxic algae

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks issued a public health advisory Friday due to blue-green algae.

The following lakes have blue-green algae warnings in effect:

  • King Lake, Lyon County
  • Lake Afton, Sedgwick County

Blue green algae watches are in effect for:

  • Frontenac City Lake (Southeast Pond), Crawford County
  • Council Grove City Lake, Morris County

Harmful algae can look like foam, scum or paint floating on water. They can appear to be blue, bright green, brown or red in color.
