Jury convicts Wichita man, 73, in 2023 shootings

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A jury has found a Wichita man guilty in connection with two separate shootings that injured three people in July 2023.

On Friday, a jury found Samuel Neal guilty of four counts related to two shootings that happened July 9 and 11, 2023 in Wichita:

  • Criminal discharge of firearm; occupied dwelling with great bodily harm
  • Criminal discharge of firearm; occupied vehicle with bodily harm
  • Aggravated battery; knowingly cause great bodily harm or difigurement
  • Aggravated assault; use of a deadly weapon

On July 9 Wichita police responded to a shooting call in the 1000 block of S. Emporia St. around 9:45 p.m. They found a 36-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman with gunshot wounds. Both went to the hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Two days later, on July 11, court records say Neal shot at a car injuring a person inside.
