With prayer, praise and joyous celebration, the congregants of St. John AM Church on Sunday celebrated a moment they had been awaiting for nearly two years since a car rammed through the front of the historic church building on New London Road.
With repairs finally complete, Pastor Blaine Hackett held a brief ceremony reconsecrating the church, and then the congregants marched in through the front door to kick off the worship service.
“This is not just a reopening, St. John,” Hackett preached from the pulpit of the reconstructed church Sunday. “It is a testimony of a resilient people. It is a testimony about how God can turn sadness into prayer. It’s a testimony about how God can turn those frowns upside down. Today is more than coming back into a sanctuary. This is the sound of triumph.”…
