Wilmington Motorcyclist Dies After Crash at Main Street and Limestone Road Intersection

WILMINGTON, Del. – A 25-year-old man from Newark died Monday after suffering critical injuries in a motorcycle crash late Sunday night at the intersection of Main Street and Limestone Road in Wilmington, according to the Delaware State Police.

Investigators said the crash occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Sunday as a Honda Passport was stopped at a red light in the outside turn lane on eastbound Main Street, preparing to turn left onto northbound Limestone Road. A Mazda CX-5 was stopped directly behind the Honda when the collision unfolded.

Motorcycle left roadway before impact

According to the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, a Kawasaki Ninja was traveling southbound on Limestone Road toward the right-turn lanes connecting to westbound Main Street. For reasons that remain under investigation, the motorcycle failed to negotiate the turn and continued straight, striking the curb of a traffic island.
