WILMINGTON — For more than two centuries, the final weekend of August has carried a special meaning in Wilmington.
It is a time for worship and reunion, music and food, reflection and celebration. It is also a reminder that the freedom to gather, worship and build independent institutions was once a courageous act for African Americans.
