The walls of Mary Alice Hinerman’s apartment are covered in colorful paintings, an accumulation of a lifetime of work that has spanned nine decades.
There’s a painting of Hinerman’s grandmother’s farm, there are sweeping vistas of her native West Virginia, there are paintings depicting West Virginia’s coal industry, there’s a stunning portrait of a woman in pink and orange hues, there are still life paintings of chairs and there’s a painting of a house on West Main Street’s “Quality Hill.” Even the bathroom walls are covered in Hinerman’s paintings.
