A statewide drought watch issued in May is still in effect, although a summer of heavy rainstorms has helped refill aquifers, especially in New Castle County.
According to the weekly Drought Monitor from the National Drought Mitigation Center, all of New Castle County is now out of any drought conditions, with only a small area north of Smyrna labeled as “exceptionally dry”.
It’s a different story in Delaware’s southern two counties, where 49% of the state, including almost all of Kent County, is in a “Moderate Drought”, with another 29% of the state deemed “abnormally dry”.
