The Wilmington Fire Department marked the 10th anniversary of the Lakeview Road Fire on Thursday, honoring three firefighters who died as a result of one of the deadliest blazes in the department’s history.
The department’s memorial bell tolled 10 times in honor of Lt. Ardythe Hope, Lt. Jerry Fickes and Capt. Christopher Leach. Their helmets were displayed as part of a ceremony commemorating the anniversary.
Mayor John Carney spoke about the firefighters’ bravery as the department remembered its fallen comrades.
On Sept. 24, 2016, a rowhome in the Canby Park neighborhood was intentionally set on fire. Leach and Fickes died while battling the blaze, and Hope died from her injuries 68 days later…
