Aluminum chloride tank ruptures near Elkton; no injuries

ELKTON – An aluminum chloride tank ruptured at the county’s Meadowview Wastewater Treatment plant off Fletchwood Road, north of Elkton, during the early-morning hours Thursday – but no one was injured and there is no threat to the surrounding community, according to Cecil County Government.

County officials reported that environmental concerns were abated after the tank ruptured, noting that emergency workers responded to the scene, as did the Department of Public Works, which initiated protocols established for such a rare event. The Maryland Department of the Environment also was notified and was involved in the abatement process.
