Man pleads guilty to killing woman, injuring child in Gloucester County shooting

A man pleaded guilty Monday to killing a woman and injuring a child in a January shooting in Paulsboro, New Jersey, according to Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns.

On Sept. 28, Ramon L. Acevedo, 41, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, second-degree aggravated assault and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with the shooting death of Hazel M. Santiago and the shooting of a child inside a home in January 2026.

Prosecutors said that on Jan. 3, 2026, Paulsboro police responded to a 911 call reporting a woman, later identified as Santiago, with a gunshot wound to the head at a home on Elizabeth Avenue. A minor had also been shot but had managed to escape.
