Wawa built its name on hoagies. Now some stores near its Delaware County headquarters are stocking sushi, writes Beatrice Forman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Wawa confirmed that it is testing six cooked rolls in select stores. The rolls come from Hissho Sushi under its Sushi Soku label. Hissho already supplies packaged sushi to Giant and Sprouts stores across the region.
What’s in the case
Check the refrigerated grab-and-go section. The lineup includes:
- Philadelphia roll
- Vegetable roll
- Spicy shrimp crunch roll
- California roll, in traditional, spicy, and crunchy versions
Each package holds eight pieces. Wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce are included. Prices start around $9. Don’t count on chopsticks.
All six rolls are cooked. That means this Philadelphia roll skips the salmon. It uses cream cheese, imitation crab, and avocado.
Where it’s been spotted
Wawa has not said which stores are in the test. These locations have been confirmed by employees or customer posts:
- Media, Delaware County
- 970 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, Delaware County
- 750 N. Pottstown Pike, Exton, Chester County
- West Chester, Chester County

What we still don’t know
Wawa won’t say when the test began. Customer TikTok videos point to at least late July. One of the earliest came from the Delco Filipino, a Media-based creator…
