Casey Geary, LPN, on 8S, the Acute Care for the Elderly unit at Wilmington Hospital, has received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
ChristianaCare DAISY Award recipients are nurses recognized for meeting and exceeding the needs and expectations of patients and families by displaying exceptional clinical skills, compassion, calm, respect and partnership.
Geary was nominated by her patient’s family member who commended her for being a “kind and compassionate” caregiver and motivator with a “contagious” sense of humor.
“My father was in the hospital for three days, leaving him very weak, but he needed to meet certain physical fitness requirements to be able to avoid rehab and go directly back to the retirement community where he lived,” her nominator explained.
“Casey motivated and encouraged him to eat his meals, stay hydrated and get his rest so that he was at his best for physical therapy. She was also on top of all of his needs and supported both of us emotionally.”
Thanks to Casey, the patient went straight back to his retirement community.
