Three University of Delaware students have received the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, this scholarship aims to expose students to different languages and cultures. It is only available to Pell Grant recipients, making international study and internships more affordable. Since 2001, the Gilman Scholarship has supported over 41,000 students, including 56 from the University of Delaware.

Brooklyn Tyndall, a senior and one of this year’s recipients, spent three weeks in Athens during the Winter Session. She shadowed physicians in Greek hospitals as part of the Arts and Sciences and Health Studies micro program. Tyndall, a human physiology major, gained experience in an international healthcare system. She stated that the experience broadened her understanding of medicine and boosted her confidence.

Tyndall also used the Delaware Diplomats program to fund her experience. This program, established ten years ago, helps University of Delaware undergraduate students study abroad. Tyndall acknowledged the financial challenges of studying abroad and expressed her gratitude for these programs.
