Delaware State Police arrested David Buchanan, 34, from Wilmington, Delaware, for multiple shopliftings in New Castle County. The thefts started in January 2024 at businesses such as Walgreens, Wegmans, Rite Aid, Family Dollar, and Jo Ann Fabrics. Buchanan typically stole home goods, put them in a shopping cart, and left without paying. He was seen leaving in a tan Audi sedan with New Jersey plates.
On February 15, 2024, troopers near a Walgreens on Faulkland Road, Wilmington, saw the suspect’s Audi. The driver looked like the shoplifter. After stopping the car, the driver was identified as David Buchanan. During his arrest, troopers found suspected heroin on Buchanan.
Buchanan was linked to 15 shopliftings in just over a month, with the stolen goods worth over $10,000. In two incidents, an unidentified woman was seen shoplifting with Buchanan. The police are asking for public help to identify this woman as part of their investigation.
Buchanan was taken to Troop 2 and charged with crimes including felony theft and shoplifting, conspiracy, and possession of a controlled substance. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and sent to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $3,600 secured bond.
