An update on the investigation into a shooting in Knollwood, Claymont, Delaware, in October 2023 has been released. Patrol officers responded to reports of gunfire on Colby Avenue in the early hours of October 4, 2023. A 32-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds and was taken to Christiana Hospital in stable condition. Detectives later took over the investigation.
Two suspects were identified after a detailed investigation: Christopher Montgomery, 20, from Claymont, and James Morgan, 22, from Wilmington. Morgan was arrested on November 13, 2023, in Wilmington. Montgomery was arrested in Claymont on February 8, 2024, with help from the Special Investigations Squad and the United States Marshals Task Force.
Montgomery was arrested in a bedroom from which he tried to escape. A loaded handgun was found in the room. Both Montgomery and Morgan face multiple felony charges, including first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, and second-degree conspiracy.
Morgan was arraigned by the New Castle County Superior Court and held on a $62,000 cash bail. Montgomery was arraigned by the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and held on a $122,000 cash bail. Both suspects were also connected to a separate motor vehicle theft investigation in New Castle.
