For the better part of his four-year run with the New York Jets, first-round tackle Mekhi Becton simply could not stay healthy. After a strong rookie season, injuries and ineffective play following those injuries played a role in the Louisville product hitting free agency this year.
Now in a new home with the Philadelphia Eagles, Becton looks like a completely different player – at a brand new position to boot.
Becton played his first game as an Eagle Friday night as the starting right guard for the Birds in their 34-29 victory over the Green Bay Packers.
One of the key highlights for Philly – outside of Saquon Barkley’s three touchdowns of course – was the play of Becton.
Philadelphia averaged close to five yards a carry behind Becton’s side of the line with two of Barkley’s touchdowns coming from that side of the field. Add in a few pancake blocks in the ground game and the former first-round tackle has passed his first test as a starting guard in the NFL.
