University of Pennsylvania launches $10 million media center

The University of Pennsylvania has announced commitments totaling $10 million in support of its new Center for Media, Technology, and Democracy. The center will be housed in the School of Engineering and Applied Science (Penn Engineering) and operate in partnership with five other schools at Penn:  Penn Arts & Sciences, the Annenberg School for Communication, the Wharton School, Penn Carey Law, and the School of Social Policy & Practice. Funded by a five-year, $5 million gift from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and a matching $5 million investment from the participating schools, the center will focus on research involving media, technology, and democracy within Penn.
